Scientists have long wondered how to explain Betelgeuse’s six-year cycle of brightening and dimming, and although the existence of a companion star had been viewed as a possibility, it had never been confirmed until 2025. The companion, formally named Siwarha, but better known as Betelbuddy, is too small to eclipse Betelgeuse and thus make it look dimmer. The scientists have therefore theorized that Betelbuddy acts something like a broom, clearing away cosmic dust as it orbits Betelgeuse. This causes Betelgeuse to brighten as Betelbuddy sweeps the dust away, and to get dimmer when the dust comes back.
My son turned three today and is in love with his celestial buddies! We got the solar system, 12 in total! They are well made and easily discernible - he knew what each was immediately!
He loves the other dwarf planets too, so I'm hoping you guys release them in the future!
They were so excited to receive this. My oldest is obsessed with space and loved seeing all the different types of stars on the puzzle and reading about them on the poster. They were eager to get started on this puzzle and watch it come to life.
Great size, well made and very cute! My son loves it and we’ve been playing with earth, and all the gas planets everyday since getting them! We just recently added Polaris, Polaris ab and b to our collection and love those as well!
